About Segways

Welcome to The Scottish Segway® Centre — the home of Segway adventure in Scotland.

We operate in two special locations in Scotland.

on arrival

How it works

  1. Arrive

Meet your friendly guide, sign the disclaimer and get helmeted up.

  2. Helmet up

Get onto your Segway and learn the simple techniques of movement.

  3. Master the magic carpet

Five minutes on the practice pad and you're moving on instinct. Lean forward to go, stand upright to stop. No pedals, no throttle. The trick is to stop thinking about it — the less you think, the quicker it clicks. It's genuinely magical, and we never get tired of watching the moment it lands.

  4. Glide

Off through woodland trails and open countryside, with views you don't normally get to see. Your guide knows the spots — the best viewpoints, the local history, the wildlife, the photo angles you'd otherwise glide past.

  5. Adventure

By the end you'll have covered more ground than you thought possible, picked up stories you didn't ask for, and started planning the next visit before you've handed the helmet back.

The Practical Bit

Too young? Too old? Too heavy?

Too young?

Being able to ride a Segway is actually a weight thing — the Segway needs to pick up slight changes in body weight via its footpad. Children under 20kg will find this a challenge. That's about seven years old. Segway Inc's official guidance is that children should be over 45kg.

At the end of the day, it's your responsibility to check your weight before you participate — we operate on hilly terrain, and if a child can't use their weight to stop the Segway, that could be a problem. If in doubt, come along and see how your child gets on. The parent or guardian signs the disclaimer and takes responsibility, so they need to be comfortable with the decision too.

If you have children around seven, why not chat to us about a personalised tour?

Too old?

Never.

Too heavy?

117kg

The maximum load on a Segway is 117kg.
